Shot 110: NOTHING VENTURED…

— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership.  It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all.  You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu above.

YOU PROBABLY KNOW the rest of this saying:  Nothing ventured; nothing gained.  Rudy, my marksman knew that nothing was for sure.  He had to venture out, try new things, give it a go.  Oh, he did a lot to minimize the chance of failure, but whether in hunting, or in managing the farm, Rudy invested to multiply his rewards.
As a leader you have to invest.  After casting a vision, you have to plan, take calculated risks, and invest.  You venture something with the expectation that it will grow in time to generate greater rewards.  You can’t save your way to success.  In other words, you can’t simply cut costs until you make money.  Somewhere, sometime, somehow you must invest.  Invest in people, in machinery, in ideas, in new customers, additional products or services, knowledge….the list can go on.  A leader is an investor.  Invest well, my friend.
